Overview

EM83206 Time of Flight (ToF) sensor is a universal, monolithic and fully integrated photoelectric device for optical distance measurement and object detection. It is part of the 3D ToF image sensor series. The ToF sensing is combined with the optimized analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) and multi-function programmable timing generator (TG). The device provides a quarter video graphics array (QVGA 320 x 240) resolution data at a frame rate of up to 156 frames per second.

EM83206 belongs to ITOF, and its working principle is based on the elapsed time of flight (TOF) of photons (modulated light) emitted by illumination and reflected by objects back to the photosensitive receiver. The receiver measures the phase shift between the transmitted and received signals, which is proportional to the distance.

EM83206 has extremely high sensitivity and allows the operating range of several meters, and the accuracy can be as low as one centimeter, depending on the lens and lighting power.
